Hey all.
First off, I wasn't sure if I should post this in General MK3 or the Lubrication SME area. If need be, it can be moved...
On to the question.
I'll be installing a full flow, thermostatically controlled oil cooling circuit soon, and following the template laid out by jdub. I'll be using an accusump tee'd in after the main oil filter, but wanted to filter the oil from the accusump before it hit the engine.
The setup would go as follows.
NA stud --> Canton block adapter (out) --> Canton remote filter head (filter in) --> Mocal thermostat (in from engine)--> oil cooler --> thermostat (to engine) --> remote filter head (filter out to engine) --> tee (accusump on third nipple) --> block adapter (in)
First off, should the oil between the accusump and block be filtered, or am I being overly anal?
Second, if I filter it, can I use a filter designed for fuel, such as Aeromotive, Fuelab, Russell, etc with oil? It would be a -10AN in/out filter...
I realize that oil filters and fuel filters are designed for two different viscosity fluids, but they both do the same job: filter particles.
I'd think that if I used an inline fuel filter rated to roughly the same filtration rating as a standard oil filter, that there would be no harm to flow?
Thanks for any help,
Chris
