Well, it just did the the other day (before I messed with the gauges).
Here's the symptoms
1. Dash lights come on when brake is pressed
2. Reverse lights don't work
3. When headlights are on (4th switch), all the brake bulbs are 100% illuminated (Without pressing brake), and pressing the brake doesn't increase brightness
4. When pressing brake, the dash lights, driving lights, and climate control lights illuminate
Here's the really weird part
I was backing it out of the driveway (to let my step-dad in the carport) and an orange square light came on suddenly, it was flashing, and I've never seen anything like it. It's all the way in the left corner of my STOCK dash, and it's a picture of a house...
Yes I am being 100% Serious, it looks like the white house actually (Columns), and it REALLY freaked me out..
SO
Here was my process of possible diagnosis
1. Fuses were replaced according to manual (Engine bay and kick panel)
2. I replaced the AM2 (I think) relay, along with the headlight relay
3. I replaced ALL bulbs, according to the manual
4. I carefully looked at taillights wiring harness to look for strips or cross-threads (concluded with nothing)
5. I took the car to Advanced auto, to conclude nothing
6. I took the car to Minike (spelling) to conclude nothing
7. I took the car to a local Toyota mechanic (not aff. with Toyota) only to see his mouth drop and say "hmm..."
8. I replaced the dimmer switch (Dash brightness control)
9. Read the wiring diagram on the dash, and everything was connected properly
I am completely stumped.. I normally don't create a thread to find an easy answer, but AHHH! It shocked a Toyota mechanic, and that in a way, scares me..
