7.6 quarts is a dry fill...1.7 quarts for a drain/refill.

Here is what you really want to do though ;)

You will need a helper or two and about 10 quarts of fluid. Dex II is no longer available...Dex III is fine to use. I use Castrol ATF.

Take a look at the tranny on the exhaust side...there are two lines going to the cooler in the radiator. The forward fitting/line on the tranny is the feed from the pump...disconnect it from the radiator and point the hose in a pan big enough to hold about 3 gallons. Pull the tranny dipstick and insert a long tranny funnel in the dipstick hole...have the bottles of ATF open and within reach ;)

Start the car...fluid should start flowing into the pan from the hose. Add ATF at the same time...keep doing it until you hit 8 quarts or the fluid flowing into the catch pan starts looking clean. Shut the motor off and reinstall the hose to the radiator. Check the fluid level with the dipstick and add to the COLD full mark...DO NOT OVER FILL.

Start the car again and shift from Rev all the way to L...do this several times. Check the fluid level again and add to the COLD full mark...DO NOT OVER FILL. Take the car out for a run to warm it up. Check the fluid again after shifting through per above. This time, look at the HOT fill range...add fluid (if necessary) to get it there...again, DO NOT OVER FILL.

What this does is completely change your ATF with new fluid. If you just drain and re-fill, you only replace 1.7 quarts. This is equivalent to what tranny shops do with a flush/fill.

You're welcome ;)

FYI - the #1 and #2 killers of hydraulic systems (like an auto tranny) is heat and crap in the fluid. The ATF cooler on the Supra is adequate at best and the screen in the pan for filtration is not very good.

Adding a filter to the system is one of the best things you can do for your tranny. It's simple too...get a remote oil filter head and route the feed line to it before it goes to the cooler. You can install the filter head under the passenger side head light and use the same size filter as the stock Supra oil filter...I would use a Wix 51348 (for the oil too). Just change it every 10,000 miles or so and refill ATF to make up.
