Transmisson Kickdown Cable Issues

I was told by the techs at Toyota that the kickdown cable needed to be replaced. I ordered a new transmission filter and gasket as well as the cable itself. Ive already got everything out and am going to pickup the cable to put in right now, but here is my main concern.

After removing the cable it seemed ok... Would the cable appear unbroken when in fact it needed to be replaced? And how the hell do I jam the new one in? It was such a bitch to remove there has to be some trick to make it easier.

if you pull on one end of the cable and the other end moves too, then i would say its... OK

as far as removing it, i have no idea... i have a standard..
