Someone suggested to me that taking chunks of pipe just wide enough to fit around the head studs and tightening the studs down to them would have the same or very similar effect on the bores as tightening down to a torque plate would. Any truth to this?
If not, does anyone have access to a torque plate that I could borrow? (I'd pay for shipping both ways and for the use of it)

Are you looking to to load the block with pressure to hone or bore? Pipes will not do this, They will create localized pressure around each stud, a plate, or the head, will distribute the load evenly. What are you trying to do?

no, you need full pressure of the head on the block.

Contact Ron R(jt2ma71 on here) as he loans his out sometimes for cost of shipping.

my teacher is a professional machinest and he said the same thing, because we have a torque plate, but it will only accept 4 cyl and 8 cyl. If the head bolt holes are close to the cylinder walls, then yes what you said will have almost the same effect as a torque plate.

I got a hold of ron, who directed me to spoolint78, who appears to be ignoring me now.
Does anyone know another place to get one, or have an idea how much the raw aluminum would cost?
I'm thinking about boring holes in my spare head and using that as a torque plate. It's got a crossthreaded spark plug hole.
