i have the same problem i just put in a new rad. with cap and hoses with 50/50 coolant i start driving and the needle goes up slow and doesn't go pass the H but 2-3 lines away

NO leaks no smoke no smell i still have coolant in the rad. overflow tank. fans kick in
i did a quick run thur 2nd and 3rd gear with no problem and lots of Power so i know for a fact my engine isnt overheating

when i turn the key off the needle goes down to C when i looked at the sensor it was barely hanging on so i put a new wire and bunt connected with a metal connected to the sensor and still it goes up to H theres no AIR in the System

i dunno wat the problem is with my 88t supra hopefully the gauge didnt die on me

Did you change the t.stat as well? If not, you might start there. Cut the little jiggle valve out of it, as well, and make sure the hole is in the 12 o'clock position.

It could still be easily overheating, that's not a good measure by any means...
