this has been poping up alot recently to time to make a difinitive thread on this. maybe even a sticky.
back in 2006 i got my first mk3 with an auto that was failing, so i did the swap to the r154. i still kept the factory at ecu and had no issues with the car. i even cut the wire plug off the trans and sliced in the new reverse switch and i just bypassed the neutral start. since the ECT has its own computer in the kick panel, i just removed it. only issue i had was the O/D light flashig at me, which i took apart the gauge cluster and covered the od light with some flat black paint. abs still worked
but now my question is, what really is the difference. THIS IS MY ASSUMPTION BASED ON EXPERIENCE. if im wrong the chime and correct me
only thing i noticed was my idle was slightly higher than normal. since there is more parasetic loss thru an auto vs a 5spd, the only difference i can assume is the air/fuel/timing maps on the ecu are optimized for a auto with the at ecu and for the 5spd with a mt ecu.
is my aussption correct or is there something else different? all ecu pinouts ive found dont say at or mt ecu,
