I've posted a thread about my engine light code, the dreaded knock sensor. Because of the information I got on this thread, I was able to finally get that fixed, as far as I know.

A very good mechanic (in my oppinion) and all around nice guy, has been helping me with getting my Supra in running condition. I have been asking him a lot of questions as well as posting my questions on this board, trying to get my car in top running condition.

When I couldn't get rid of the Code 52 problem, I went here, and also asked him. Both said that it was probably the wiring, however, my mechanic said that he was getting signal through the wire, just no frequency. That made him think the sensor was bad. I asked "Well, I've heard that the wire can cause this. can't we just replace the wiring or bypass the harness?" He's like "Well yeah, but I think it might be the sensor because I get signal through the wire."

So, we replaced the knock sensors... well the problem didn't go away. (yeah we could see that coming) So I called him up and said "Hey, engine light just came on again, it's time for the bypass". So last night he ran the wires, ran the speaker wire, however he tapped back into the stock wire right at the point where it goes into the ECU.

So far so good. I ran the car for over 100 miles today, and no engine light.

Thank you Supramania for the good information you guys provide. I just wanted to give you all the update.

Allen.

Yeah...what Shaeff said :biglaugh:

It was pointed out to me the knock sensor wire in the harness itself is shielded wire...so I immediately went to the garage and opened up an old harness and sure enough, it's shielded wire. Totota just decided to have a single exposed wire from the harness bundle to the sensor.

In any case...glad it worked!

I'll take some pictures of it so you guys can see what we did. Yes I agree that RG-58 would be much better. This was pretty much a "lets see if this really is the problem" fix. If the engine light stays off, I'll know that's the problem (which I'm 95% sure of), then I'll use the speaker wire to pull the RG-58 through, and tuck it in so it looks better.

Thanks for all your help guys.
