anyone want to know the tensile strength and compressive strength and possibly rockwell hardness test number of the 7mgte stock rods and rod bolts??

if you guys would like that, I can get a test done and post them on here.

Here is some info:

Rod RHC: 48 = about 238 KSI
Bolt RHC: 35 = about 156 KSI
You may lookup 4340 steel at www.matweb.com for a reference number. Remember there are many different kinds of 4340.

Just so you know, this would be for a static rod. Remember, the motor is dynamic. I was going to do a compression and a tension test but that would not give me any good information since that would be a static test. One must also take into account fatigue and heat which makes the calculations extremely complex.

From what I see, the oiling hole is causing a huge stress concentration. If you look at the oiling hole, there are sharp edges which is not good. The hole is also at the radius of the rod which is also not a good place to put the hole. The hole and edge would start a microscopic crack, then propagate, and failure occurs. The oiling hole will cause a stress factor of 3 (in tension), meaning that the rod sees 200 ksi then at the hole, the stress is 600 ksi.

There are many different methods to see what the stresses are like at the oiling hole but that would take me 3 months or more to complete.

Hope this is good info.
