Hey alls... I started pulling the motor apart in my parts car today and I'm not sure whats going on...
When I drove the car home... it was fairly obvious that there was quite a bit of blow-by (dip stick was 3.5" out of the tube after a 15 mile drive...) and coolant was low in the rad.
The previous owner of the car said it was rebuilt around 15k miles ago and had receipts to prove it... has had several hg jobs (stock hg and no machine work) before its overhaul... and was having an overheating problem (acted like the thermostat was stuck) however the t-stat had been replaced 3 times since the overhaul all with oem toyota parts...
The cyl. walls still have hone marks so it was rebuilt... however there are gouges in the cyl. walls and it looks like it should have been bored but wasnt...
anyways... here are a few pics...
its obvious #5 was seeing coolant considering how much cleaner the cyl. is compared to the others... I just dont know where its coming from... the hg that was on the motor looked to be in good shape (however was spary copper coated)... and when unbolting the head... some of the bolts came out with very little effort and a 3/8" ratchet where some took a 1/2" breaker bar... perhaps improper torquing of the head when rebuilt? cracked head or block?
advice/input would be appreciated..
thanks
