thats the most effective way iirc. oh and if this is your dd, you will regret it...

im not gutting it, im puttin new efficient, lighter stuff in, once take all the stock stuff out, im spraying undercoat all over the floor, then im putting this type of insulation(not dynamat or any of that stuff) and it works real good, inexpensive. and it keeps your car warmer in the winter.

dont worry i have it all planned out, im not gutting the car

There are two ways. hot and cold. A heat gun can loosen the adhesive so you can pry it off. If it's very cold (Either really cold temps or by dry ice) it will shatter easily and come right off.

I just did mine in the winter. It came off very well like that.
Heat just bakes in the tar residue to the paint. I'd much rather the cold effect.

Don't do it. The loss of 25 pounds isn't worth the gain in road noise and loss in insulation. Not worth it at all.

if youre dead set on removing it, dry ice is the way to go. freeze it nice and hard then just chisel it away and itll pop off in big pieces like other people around here have reccommended.

What is the stuff you're replacing the sound deadening with? Maybe take some pictures of the whole process...If the product you're using is lighter and better insulating then a little write up would be awesome.

Keep us posted.

I would've left the tranny deadening in. I removed the 2 pads under the each seat and the firewall mat all of which were 7lbs, so 7 x 5= 35 lbs lost.

I plan on using rhino liner to cover where the mats went. Ill post some pics towards the end of november.

well im going to spray the undercoating over all the floor, including over the tranny, and the new stuff is going all around, it was actually the easiest part to take off. and ya the tar is real heavy i wouldnt thing of it being that heavy.
