T62-1, experience?

I've been thinking about buying a Turbonetics T62-1 full T4 turbo with the 4 inch inlet and 2.5 inch outlet (not the bolt on one or the upgraded ct26). I am thinking about using a tangential .70~.80 A/R for the turbine. My power goals are around 400-450 hp with 18-20 psi with supporting mods. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with it, good or bad, and suggestions on places to buy it (cheapest I've found is about 750 shipped).

I did search a little bit, but all that came up was gixxer750's bolt on version.

I also was wondering if anyone knows anything about the T61 turbo as well.

The 62-1 is a GREAT turbo, prolly the best street turbo for the MKIII.

I get a masterpower one for like $585-$600-ish. more depending on options.

Second, the 62-1 turbo is just fine for making your power level that you want, as long as you have the fuel to support it.

I would suggest going with something smaller rear a/r if you're looking for something with radical street spool.

The setup you've stated will take off around the late 3000rpm range, and make power all the way to 7k.

I might also suggest a P trim shaft.

My JT62 Turbo is a Bolt-on 62-1 with a P-Trim shaft .

I have a 60-1 Garrett P-trim with a .68 exhaust housing, and a 4in Inlet .70 cold side. This turbo is simply amazing. I have yet to dyno it but at only 12psi, its scary, 19 psi is when this turbo starts to work. This turbo from what i hear can be pushed to 25-30 psi (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyways I can only imagine that the 62-1 is as good or better. I love the .68 exhaust housing, I wanted to go with a .58, but I changed my mind as I wanted to leave some room to grow later.

It was the Masterpower 62-1.

I just skimmed through your build thread. How are you liking it? What size A/R are you using on the hot side?

MDCMotorSports: That RPM range is exactly what I wanted for this setup; something that spools between 3500-4000 rpm.

Can anyone say anything about the masterpower turbos? Same questions about experience with them as the turbonetics one .

The master power turbos are top notch quality and can be rebuilt with garrett rebuild kits.

I think mine just took a dump yesterday, whines like a vacuum cleaner under load low-mid throttle, dets higher pitched up to 10 - 12 lbs, then if i get on it and boost higher it goes away, thought it was the bov but i got under the hood and power braked enuf to build boost and heard it in the turbo, only other chance is its the outlet hose, but the noise wouldnt go away, shaft play seems to be worse, just installed in May. will pull bottom hose later but im too pissed right now, going to clean the garage and catch a buzz so i can deal. Luckily it has a 1yr no ? asked warranty.

I used to have a Turbonetics T-61 installed on the car, but be careful because it is pretty big. I had to gently "massage" the passenger side strut tower to get it to fit with the HKS manifold. If you are using the HPF kit, you would probably be okay. It was a nice huge turbo with a big shock factor, but I ended up getting an SP61GT instead...

i just tuned a 60-1 today. while it is a tad smaller, results should be similar.
the charts are first and last run. first run was so rich it was hitting fuel cut then after some tuning got it sorted. it was getting hot and on the last run it was almost 90F and 74% humidity. i think if we gave the car time to cool down between the runs it would have made over 400rw on wg alone (13.8psi). w/ the smoothing on 1 it was just under 400rw, but these got printed w/ smoothing on 5 which made a little difference.
