Im sorry if these have been answered, but i am trying to search and im having a really hard time finding the right terms to use to get the information. I have a few questions swapping from an 86.5 NA to an 89 turbo 7mgte. The engine i am buying has the 89 turbo wiring harness, all the sensors and accessories and the 89t ECU.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii267/chrome89t/SANY0296.jpg

Those are the plugs off the engine wiring harness. Now i was reading the sticky and it said i need my years wiring for the engine but is there a way to convert the body wiring to match my 86.5? Are there any diagrams for this?

I also ready that i need to make sure the IC and pipeing are off the same year car, but they didnt make 86.5 turbos so does that mean the 89T intercooler and pipeing im getting with the engine wont work?

Also does the fuse block connect directly up to the 89 harness?

Im basically getting the full 89 engine, harness, ecu, intercooler pipeing and intercooler, and the downpipe. It seems like a fairly straitforward swap mechanically but im confused with the electronics of it. PLEASE HELP

Again i apologize if this has been asked before but im having a lot of trouble with search terms, and im very new to the whole turbo thing.

Anyone else know if the IC piping will work? Im buying the stuff today and if it doesn't work I don't want to buy it. And can i splice the wires? Or do i really have to have a harness and ecu from an 87?

U can use an ecu from an 87 or 88. it would be easier to just find a harness then to splice i think. If you're lookin to sell that 89 harness, i need it if its in good condition....

I apologize for that^

Anyways, after a couple hours of searching i have come across two things that look like they may have a little bit of potential to help. Here are the two sites.
Site 1: http://www.supras.nl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=34&Itemid=50

Site 2: http://www.supracharged.com/tech/wiring/

The problem i have with site 1 is, i dont know what the hell those grid charts are telling me, are they comparing the yellow to the grey? They sure dont look like they are but they have the two colors side by side in the picture above each grid. Confused.

After all the searching i have found pretty much hundreds of threads on the same questions with the same answers from the same people. "You need the same year engine harness and ecu as the year of your mk3 body." This doesn't seem right. Sure its "EASIER" according to everyone but this is not how i want to do it.

They all say "do it that way or break out the wiring diagrams and figure it out". Alright, fair enough, but where do i get the diagrams for the pre-89 body connections? I have a subscription to Mitchell on demand and even that doesnt have the diagram i need.

These plugs might be different shapes/aligned differently, but really, how many different functions can the two have. They must have the same functions, just arranged differently right? This whole thing just needs to be figured out ONCE and then everybody else can take that information and easily convert their wiring without going out and buying a new harness for $400+

PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS ISSUE! Nobody seems wiling to help figure this out even though its really not even that difficult, theres around 20-30 wires, and most of them carry the same functions afaik they just need to be matched.

Everytime I read about a swap involving different year harnesses I read about problems. Main problem is the headlights dont work properly. Seems like there were other problems but I dont remember tham right off. I considered trying to figure out the issue as 89+ harness are easily found in decent condition. 87/88 auto turbo harness are difficult to find these days.

afaik that happens when people simply plug the connectors in and cut two wires. headlights get stuck on and theres no rev limiter or something like that, but if i can get a full pinout i can match them 100% rather than just trying to guess at it
