Hi guys. While driving my supra around 30+ mph the car steering wheel shakes like crazy and the car feels like something is really un balanced. Today was like the 3rd time i had the car out since i've bought it and it did it every time i just never asked about it. My rear suspension is like a pogo stick but that doesnt seem like why the car shakes like crazy. what do you think is wrong with my suspension?

i had a similar problem on my old car, it ended up being the ball joints

The ones on the tie rods or control arms? I was thinking i may just need an alignment. Thank

lower control arm...mine would only do it every once in a while and above 40mph though, but yours might be a lot worse off than mine were.

I have a real bad back and forth shimmy in my steering wheel. Tracked it down to an inner tie rod. You can feel the play if you jack up the front of the car and try to move the wheel side-to-side.

That sounds like the infamous "60MPH shimmy" caused by a worn-out center carrier bearing. (on the driveshaft)...as for the steering wheel shaking, My car does that too but at low speeds, it just wobbles left to right slowly...and moves faster as speed increases, until it isn't noticeable anymore, you can also feels the car wobbling slightly with the steering wheel...it also makes that "knock" sound when I come to a complete stop, I am almost 100% sure that the problem is worn out ball-joints.

My car has that problem as well. But I've found a local shop that makes steel 1-piece driveshafts for $150. :naughty:

Where can i get ball joints? Are they hard to replace? Im always willing to do work to my car myself. I really dont like some mechanics. Thanks for all the replies!

:aigo: hey guys, my car does the same symptoms too but when i had a mechanic check it out he said i needed to replace the wheel bearing on the front...
it kinda sounds faint and almost as if its missing one roller on the bearing since it ticks per revolution while im going straights but when i corner it becomes annoyingly loud..

anyone ever done the replacements? (ball joints, wheel bearings etc...)if so how long does it take to get the job done?

wow really, no one is recomending wheel balance and tire pressure, it costs nothing, maybe 5$ and is allways the first thing to check, your car rides on your wheels and tires check them first. if its not that then check your suspension and ball joints which is also farely easy jack your car up grab your tire at the 12 and 6 o'clock position and check for play.

I already did...Check the tires is what I said. The front tires can cause terrible wheel vibrarion if they are worn or bent rims, or even loose lugs.:biglaugh:
