I just replaced the head gasket with a few of my friends. We hooked everything back up and put the new battery in. Prior to replacing the head gasket I had starting issues. It would crank really slowly and eventually start. I was told it was probably a corroded wire to the starter or terminals. Turns out that the wire to the starter was never corroded but i replaced it anyway, along with the battery terminals. So after replacing the HG and putting everything else together, changing the oil and putting coolant in. I tried starting it and it wouldn't. Same symptoms. I got starter fluid. It ended up starting with starter fluid. And was running really rough at first. Then smoothed out after it warmed up a little. But that was days ago. Yesterday i tried to start it with starter fluid and it would start but would die 3 seconds later. One of my friends said the reason it wasn't starting before could have been air in the fuel system. But I don't know why it would stay running, maybe fuel pump? What do you guys think? Any help would be awesome. Thanks

first thing to do is check for codes and get back to us. this should lead you to the right direction.
is the battery holding a charge?
then check the obvious.... afm, isc, and tps.
test fuel pump by putting a jumper in the diagnostic box.. dont remember which terminals (check the tsrm).

Sure you got basic timing set up correctly? (i.e. crank at "zero" index, both cam gears index indexed with the rear cover mark, CPS installed correctly). The #1 piston must be at TDC with all of the above.

I would lay of the starter(Ether, I take it?) fluid.

Trying to start a GTE once upon a time using that, ended up with a really nice, long blue flame coming out the intake according to my wife. I can't say for certain, as I was busy practicing duck and cover after I felt my eyebrows char and disintegrate. :aigo:
