Alright, Im having trouble getting the tie rods off. The actual ball of the old tie rods just spin in place even when I use a pickle fork to wedge away from the spindle. I eventually got the castle nut off after jacking with it for an hour but now the tie rod wont budge off of the rack and pinion(I tried using PB blaster to no avail). Well, I eventually ran out of sunlight and I put it all back together. I think im going to have to take it to the shop....:nono: . Ohh well, I still had to take it to the shop for the front end alignment, I thought I would just swap out the tie rods and save a buck. Thats what I get for being cheap.

you mean the threads on the tire rod are siezed to the rack and pinion threads? im theres a locknut you have to loosen before the tie rod will thread out.

if you get the lock nut off, count the turns it takes to unthread it and put the new one on the same amount so when u drive it to get the alignment its at least somewhat correct.

sounds siezed, or you're not doing it right

undo the lock nut and bolt, and then you can put a wrench on the rack to hold it from turning, then rotate the tierod off

while you're there, you might want to replace the rack boots...

yeah, already busted the lock bolt and clip, no worky, the tie rod is seized, I even thought about using heat to possibly get it unseased but i think I would probably burn up the seals in the rack(ive already replaced that rack once by my self, and that was enough for me). Running out of ideas, ive never had a tie rod seize up on me before. Im taking it to the shop first thing tomorrow morning, see if they cant get it to bust free(maybe with a 8ft pipe and a half a gallon of pb blaster). We shall see.

When I replaced the rack the first time, I used new boots, now the boot is trashed again, time to go get another boot.

try a pipe wrench, there great for turning tie-rods. itll grab onto it and wont damage the rod, just a little bite mark. If the pipe wrench isnt enough put a pipe on it or something, it only bites harder with force.

i have the sleeves on my toyota pickup for tie rods, there beyond a bitch to adjust. pipe wrench has done the trick numerous times.

Thats what I was using the first time around, 14" pipe wrenches. No go. I took it to the shop this morning, 184 dollars later and a few cut off wheels(he had to cut them off!), all done. After sitting in the waiting room for two hours, the master tech came to me panting and told me it was done, tie rods and the alignment, I took it around the block and it still pulled to the right and the same vibration in the wheel so I was like wtf! I was pissed, I hauled ass back up their and the guy said he may have busted off a weight from the wheel(sure 'nough, he found the weight in the driveway). balanced all four wheels and rotated the tires, baddabing! He mentioned that my caster was all the way forward in the front(I was confused as to what he was refering to, I know the frontend sits higher than the rear...) Anyways, I dont feel as much of a dumbass when he had to bust out the Dremel from hell, and I get a year warranty on the alignment. woot, one free curb! Later.
