Hey, I resemble that remark... lucky for you I'm not that big of a dick, right now.

The head bolts are TTY, but do not need to be replaced, oddly enough. I have talked to Independent Subaru Mechanics as well as Dealer Technicians who say the same thing, it's ok to use the old ones again.

Steps from the DOHC FSM (same as SOHC)
1.Apply coat of engine oil to bolts
2a.Tighten all bolts to 22 ft-lbs
2b.Tighten all bolts to 51 ft-lbs
3.Back off all bolts by 180 degrees, then another 180 degrees
4.Tighten middle two bolts to 25 ft-lbs
5.Tighten outside bolts to 11 ft-lbs
6.Tighten all bolts 80 - 90 degrees
7.Tighten all bolts an additional 80-90 degrees

So, no more than 180 degrees.

subaru's are odd cars..especially the 2.5...headgasket issues till they decided "hey lets give them an sti headgasket that would be a better idea" i prefer the 2.2 best engine subaru ever made
