Hey Guy's

I was getting ready to mount my W54 to the motor (replacing motor with JDM after it threw a rod). Anyway when we backed one of the flywheel bolts out of the JDM we noticed it was really tight and it looked like we had left some thread from thebolt inside. We made a mental not and moved on. Anyway the JDM is pretty much ready to go backinto the car with tranny and of course the mental note was lost until just now.

I tapped the extra thread out of the hole gently with a screw driver and it looked ok but soon after threading it , it got hard to turn and then eventually I stoped for fear or ruining something.

The bolts threads seem to be pretty ruined now. (I have 6 spares) Anyway I can see now the 1st quater of the threads in the hole are damaged the remaing 3/4 seem ok.

So dumb question 1, can I get away with 5 bolts or will the balance be totaly off.

Dumb question 2, can I tap the hole out and use a larger thread diamter bolt, if so where would I get one?

So frustrating, want the motor in the car already! :p

Thanks

Carl

Hey carl! how is calgary treating you?

I'd buy a tap and run it through the hole to clean it up. If the bolt holds when torqued down, I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey Steve,

Calgary is great! The guy in the local club here hav been very helpful with locating parts etc.

I think our plan is to tap it out to a larger size and try a slightly larger bolt.

If not we mahe to Heli Coil it.

helicoiling first would probably be a good idea. if you tap it out for a larger bolt, you'll have to replace them all, or it will wreck the balance of the flywheel assembly.

school is going well. I can't wait for the semester to be over though. the workload wears you down after awhile...and I really want to make some money! car will be done this year for sure. I've started collecting some more parts and will finish purchasing once work starts!

best of luck with your engine swap!
