Stock Piston Question?????????????????

I just got done cleaning my stock pistons that came out of my 7mgte

Got the last one clean and noticed a very small intrusion........

Its not on the round part of the piston should i replace or am i safe to run it?

im thinkn about gettn the npr piston set off drift motion causes it is only 40 more dollars than the just the rings kinda has me scared the pistons are cheaper than the rings though\.............. anybody runnin these?

I dunno if it was dropped kinda looks like i just cleaned it up and found the small dent

I just got done measuring all my piston to bore clearences everything is well within spec and the small dent is only on the very top not on the round part so i decided to use it

especially cause i dont wanna use cheap npr and have to run .20 overs

ive also decided to find higher quality rings

Go OEM rings, hastings, or total seal. Heard nothing but good quality. I wish my block wasn't in need of a bore. I have no choice but to go .20.

looks like it would be ok to use, but it'd be unbalanced and you'd need to pay to have a balance done. (worth it anyway) seriously, its apart why not spend a little coin and replace all the slugs.. don't cut corners, the 7m will not forgive you...

It really looks much worse than it is the camera i used takes very good pictures.........with my camera i couldnt even see it

Im kinda using this build for practice and just wanting to get through a year of drifting with it like 12 events at the most im going to save the whole year and probably swap motors or do a full build after that............

I tried to find hasting rings last night i think they might be discontinued:cry:...
any idea were to find them.

I will into total seal cause i dont wanna spend the cash on oem but i may have to.......

I wouldn't use it. If it were dropped there could be cracks you can't see. Even if not, that area of the piston could cause some funky hot spots or could be a starting place for the piston to fail later down the road.

Do a dealer search on the Hastings website or google hastings dealers.

I have used Hastings rings on a few motors in the past with great results.

Im thinkn about gettin probes they make a standard size thats .003 over so you can hone to fit probably gonna go that route just sucks cause i was hopn to get this thing goin it'll be a little tell i i save the extra money..

Anybody else got an opinion im probably not goin past 300 horsepower wise...

If you're not going over 300 then there's no point in getting forged pistons. Just get some cast OEM's..such as NPR's.

Searching can prove that NPR will offer the power and replacement needed.... but quality and longevity is an issue. Has anyone have NPR's in their motor for more then 30k? I heard NOW that NPR cut corners on the ringlands. <--not good.

Probe is a good addition to your goals. Going forged will leave room for more wants in the near future. My goals of NPR has turned me over to probes.

There are plenty of people with used std size pistons they dont need, including myself. If you want me to send you one good one, i can do that, i have a set of stock std size pistons in pretty good shape, clean as well.

NPR are OEM....I don't see the problem.. Ring lands will break on any motor not tuned properly. A member on here has made 700hp on stock slugs...

NPR are oem spec replacements(aka aftermarket replacments). They aren't actual oem pistons. There is reasons to why NPR are lighter and cost 120.00 new with rings for the set. <--- That is something that you can't question. True ringland can break because of poor tuning.... but they also reflect of poor manufacturing. What 1 person achieve is great on OEM pistons, but it will require more then one success to prove tolerance to all other conditions. This is where forged is for the Tuners at heart and cast for the more easy minded.

^its all in the tune. he had a standalone. and most peoples cars and tuned as good as his.

stock pistons should be able to handle 4-500 hp depending on tune but if your going for that kinda power you might as well just go with forged.

Don't use Total Seal rings...they are too hard and have seal issues on this motor.

anything wrong with the npr rings? or are they similar to the oem rings?
