Sticky window switch

I recently sprayed some contact cleaner into my driver's side window switch since the electrical contacts were intermittent. It fixed that, but now one of the plastic switches gets stuck when pushed. I tried lots of WD-40 but it made no difference. How can I lube this mechanism properly?

Well, I would start with disassembling the entire thing, cleaning out all the crap you just filled it up with, then physically cleaning the rocking contacts and other moving parts. Then lubricate only where needed with some moly grease.




I used to periodically wonder about how a CC I once worked on managed to get enough oil in it that I literally POURED it out....

Have you taken a window switch apart before? It looks like it would never go back together again if I cracked it open.

drivers side is a pita to put back together. you're better off buying a new one imo. i got mine back together, but now it clicks twice instead of once when you go to roll the window up or down.

I've taken apart AND reassembled several. The first time it's a bitch.

BTW - I have opened a few switches and CC's that were loaded up with oil. It usually makes things worse as time goes on.

I've also pulled my share of them down. Last one was to increase the brightness of the leds by changing the resistors. They're definitely 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag. Toyota even has a little manual for working on them. And yeah, generally speaking, spraying lubricants into electrical gear causes more trouble than it's worth.
