steering issue

Ok so when i turn the wheel sometimes it is very hard to turn but it doesnt do it all the time and it doenst do it the the full turn of the steering wheel very often but sometimes it does. The ps pump was replaced about 6 months ago.The fluid is full. What could it be?

Sounds like a rack problem.

Could also be the idle-up isn't connected properly.

How do i determin exactly what it is

Trouble shoot. Start with checking the vac lines that go to the idle up valve on the back of the pump. Check that the belt isnt slipping. Get under the car and have your buddy turn the wheel, watch out for the rack doing anything strange. Grab it (if its not too hot) and feel for anything odd. There should be very little that you should feel, besides fluid flowing back and forth, if you can even feel that. Make sure the rack mount bushings are still there. Friend of minds bushings left the sene and it caused the end links to bind a bit. 20 year old steering shafts might have a problem in one of the joints too. But thats rare.
