I've been trying to fix my friends car which just doesn't want to start. It cranks just fine, we had spark, but not anymore. The fuel pump is pumping fuel to the rail just fine but it doesn't seem like the injectors are firing. The cps has been replaced and tested and it's fine. We tried changing ECU's and igniters, no difference. Sometimes it throws code 11 after cranking (momentary power loss to ECU).

It seems like a wiring problem, but the harness is in excellent shape, it looks like someone bought it new from Toyota in the past couple of years. I've tested it all over with the multimeter and everything seems to be fine.

The car is an early 89 as far as wiring goes. The harness and ECU are from an 88. The car was auto and has been converted to 5spd. I jumped the neutral start switch in the harness.

I am at a total loss for what is wrong with the car, let me know if you have any ideas.

whats makes you think the injectors arent firing? you can it with the multi meter right at the connection and you'll know right away.

was it running before the swap with this harness?

try checking fuses and relays for it and then check the grounds from the ignitor. did you do the tranny swap yourselfs or was it like that when he got it. i mean you can rule out the common stuff like battery, timing and alternator. jusst start tracing all the leads and connectors to make sure that they're hooked up completely. i'm having problems with relays right now so that would be my first thing to check.

Well the spark plugs don't have any fuel on them after cranking for a while. Since the engine isn't even sputtering, I assume no fuel is going into the cylinders. I checked for power at the injectors with the key in the ON position and that's fine, is there something I can check while trying to start?

The harness is actually from one car and the engine is from another, neither car ran and both were in bad shape so I had no chance to find out why. The car that we swapped into was a running driving car though...well until it spun a bearing.

Dumb question here; but, this bit me once a looooooooooooooooooong time ago...

Is there gas in the car? ;)

Also, is code 11 still the only code?

There is gas in the car, we dumped the old stuff and put a gallon or two in, either way it wouldn't affect spark.

Code 11 as far as I know is still the only code.

Haven't been over to Alex's house as I have been sick.

Well it doesn't throw any codes at the moment. It threw code 11 a couple of times a few days ago when we had spark, but we haven't thrown a code since it stopped sparking.

EDIT: Also we've since changed out the coils with known good ones for the hell of it, no difference.
