Ok, I just replaced a cracked valve cover with some nice painted ones I bought from GotToyota (thanks :icon_bigg ), after I finished the install I replaced the coilpacks, plugged them in, grounded them. And went to start my car and got a big clunk. Sounding as if the starter engages but no clicks or anything. I check my connections, my battery, look over everything I've touched and everything is normal. Go to try it again and nothing just a big clunk and all my interior lights flutter and then go blank. As soon as I release the ignition then all my lights come back on. I'm kind of stumped at this point since I looked other everything that I thought could be a culprit. So, since I need to drive the damn thing, could somebody please point me in the right direction... Thank all :1zhelp:

Sounds like something is draining the power, check your block and body grounds, and check your terminals. Also check fuses, doesn't hurt to check. And also check your the starter cable that comes from the battery, make sure its tight. There should be two clicks too, starter and fuel relay.

Yeah Im getting fuel pressure, and I've checked my battery, which I relocated to the trunk, I checked my fuse. Not my block or body grounds though.

Yuck, I hate those battery relocate things, they drain your battery because the electricity has to travel much farther, fill the wires, and drains your power. Plainly.. I think the relocate could be your problem.. Did you try it with the battery back up front?

Move it to the front with normal battery terminals, when I did an engine swap on my buddies car, I went to start it and EVERY LIGHT IN THE CAR FLICKERED. Scared the living shit out of me cause it was dark. Do yourself a favor and try it :)

Haha, yeah I have to get a battery that has top post terminals because the one in my trunk is side post, because I got the thing for free....Sheesh, all for some pretty valve covers lol......

Try to lock your car and wait until the alarm light starts blinking..then open the door with the key and try to start it. If not it could be the starter..does it crank?how long?

The big clunk is the solenoid on the starter engaging the pinion drive. But your starter motor is not creating its field current. That would be my guess. I have seen it before.

Does the clunk come from under the intake manifold?
