Ok, so I'm fixing the speedo cable for like the 9 millionth time. I've determined everything is in working order and drenched it in motor oil for good measure, but I have one problem. The metal key piece on the short cable keeps coming off. I took the speedo cable out and messed around with it and got the key to stick on there good so that when I turend the key, the cable turned.

Then I went and put it back in the car and the key came off again, I put it back on (already had gotten it through the firewall and didn't feel like trying to see if it was turning again when I put the key back on, hah). Needless to say, during the test drive the speedo cable wasn't turning agian. So in short, what's something good to use to keep the freaking key on the short cable??

Cliff notes: Key on short cable keeps falling off, need to know something good to use to keep the key on.

After talking to some friends, I decided to just rock some super glue inside the hole on the key. I don't see any reason for it to not work.

Superglue is extremely brittle and relies on the two parts having near perfect mating surfaces. I have no idea what this "key" is your talking about since Ive not taken that part of my car apart....yet.

If it was me and I was "glue/welding" two car parts together I would use JBWeld or 30minute epoxy, and I would use brakeclean to make sure both parts were clean and free of oil.

Here's my excellent art skills at work.

On the end of the short cable, the key fits and then there's a twirly thing that screws onto the drive gear in the transmission. Well the key that goes into the drive gear (that consequently turns the speedo cable) isn't staying on the rounded part of the short cable. And when Iput it on, it isn't seating well, so the key turns, but doesn't turn the cable.

But I'm gonna take a look around, hopefully someone at the store is somewhat knowledgeable
