Speedo drive gear

I have 1990 supra turbo with an auto trans and the speedometer doesn't work. The speedo cable is fine and so is the gauge. My question is: Will a speedo drive gear from a r154 work in the automatic trans? And how do you replace it?

What about the internals? Just the gear and shaft.

Just get a new one from a dealer, I got mine for under 30. That way you know it will work

will do. Does it come out just like the manual one comes out? I looked it up on the tsrm. But it really doesn't say how to remove it. It just explains how to disassemble it.

AFAIK, you unscrew the gear housing from the transmission, then there should be a clip holding the shaft to the transmission.

Could anyone else elaborate on this if I missed anything? Thanks
