I have changed the spark plugs on my 1jz and all of a sudden cylinders 4 and 5 have no spark. the car starts and runs but very rough. changed the plugs again and its the same thing. Those two plugs are clean meaning they haven't been fired and covered in gas. i changed the coils to see if thats what it is and it not. where should i look for problems?

Should the wires have some current going? can it be done with the multimeter?

Honestly, I am not familiar enough with the JZ coil wiring, but first and formost, being that you were messing with them I would look for obvious breaks or short in the wiring to those two coils...

Wait, that is a coil on plug setup right? If so, how many wires go into each coil? 2, 3, or 4?

2 wires per coil. all have one black wire and the second is colored and different on each coil. i haven't been messing with them and i replaced (rotated) them so it's not the coils its unfortunately something else.

What homeskillet305 side is true if they are only 2 wire units... Being that there is a black wire on all of them, then the black should be your +12V supply (i.e. with the key on, then that wire should have 12 volts).... As stated, the other color wire should have good continuity with the igniter....

Is the connector (AKA housing) broken? Can you pull it out with out pressing the clip?

Yes some of them are. and the one that has an issue is broken. others that are also broken (1 or 2 others) seem to work. Dry fouling and missfire at higher boost makes me think that i just touched the tip of some more serious ignition issues by accident. Would pressing and holdinig it in really tight help if i don't have the locking part?

Replace the housings, that could be your problem or the wiring could be done also. the wires in the center of the head get the most heat. Make sure that the power wire goes to the side of the housing that has the clip.

i dont know about jz setups, but i couldnt get spark in a couple cylinders on my 7m when i first tried to start it because the tsrm AND the paperback manual i have for it state the wrong plug wire order on the coil pack.. it sounds too simple, but its worth a shot.. just double check the wire order.

I'll double check but the thing is I was disconnecting one by one and connecting them right back, i never really had 2 disconnected at a time.

any luck??

Yes, but i don't know what happened though. Thanks for, coming back and asking. I suppose i have some loose wiring somewhere. I just started moving the wiring around and the spark came back. now sometimes it starts really easy and sometimes just cranks and nothing. My harness is not in such a great shape i need to take out one day and make sure all the connections are tight.
