So I just got my new car the other day. Okay, it's not "NEW", but it's a nice car. 1998 Lexus GS300, high mileage (like 145K). So I take a couple hours to clean the dirty interior and it's starting to look cleaner. A buddy of mine says he'll fix the bumpers and paint them for fairly cheap. I get a lot of the dirt off the leather seats, then quit because I got tired. I'll shampoo the carpets on Friday, and possibly wash and wax it then too, if not then Saturday. I'm enjoying all the niceties of a luxury car, albeit an old one, but it still has auto-leveling HID lamps, Navigation, and a really really quiet ride. So that's that. All seems to be going good. I lso get a notice from the court regarding my ticket in July of last year that my case has been dismissed. I am expecting a refund of $1059 for that case. Sweet.
But then I get wind of something that's been a thorn in my side. My mom got a ticket awhile back, so I did the same thing as I did with mine. I got her a trial by declaration. At the time I was busy with school and didn't have the time to go to court and whatnot. Now I got time as I'm done with finals and am working during the summer, going back to school in the fall. So I look up her ticket case online and it says "prior" meaning she was found guilty. Well, at least in California, if unsatisfied with a TBD decision, you are entitled to a Trial de novo, which is all new (but in person) trial. Trick is, you have 20 days from the date the court mails you the TBD decision to file for a TDN. What sucks is, the online record was updated this week to being a prior, which means it took the court a full month to update the site from the supposed trial date (5/9/2008). Now, my mom never received a courtesy notice. She never received papers for the Trial by declaration either, which they were supposed to send, and I had to find them online and print it out myself. Now, she never received a notice of decision in the mail. Now I have to drive down to Compton Courthouse to find out what the hell is going on, and why the hell I never received any sort of documentation whatsoever. It's just worrying me to no end that they'll say it's too late to file for a trial de novo, in which case I will ask for a date to see the judge to try to explain it to him/her. I couldn't do it any sooner than now because I was soo busy with school day in and day out to do it for my mom. If they say I never sent it in, I have a return receipt requested from the post office that says they received my documents. Hopefully I am not too late to file for a TDN, with my accident record, our insurance would be too high if she has a point (and no, she's not eligible for traffic school). IF the court has records of sending it out,but they sent it to the wrong address, I would tell that to the judge, and he might issue a new trial. Who knows? Maybe the court clerk just messed up and sent it to the wrong place all the time? This is bugging me to no end, I can't even sleep... (yeah, I'm a huge worrywart)
