Ok... this is the deal... this car passed smog a while back.. supposedly before the headgasket was replaced... after replacement.. it failed horribly.. I listen to the back of the engine and it sounds like an exhuast leak.. a small one.. and im pretty sure i have a small exhuast leak post turbo.

Would a faulty EGR or clogged egr cause my smog to go out of control like this?

t/y for the help.

i was thinking about just starting the build.., getting the turbo rebuilt and rebuild the head... maybee i should just start now.

Jeez, 9% CO. That's one rich running pig. No wonder O2 and NOx is depressed. The EGR valve itself can't be at fault but a leak at the EGR cooler could be or any other leak upstream of the O2 sensor. Put simply the engine is not in fuel control, likely because of the exhaust leaks. Fix them and then check the O2 sensor for cross counting per the TRSM.

Assuming you get it counting with an average of 450 mv and the cat is good O2 and CO2 will come up while HC and CO will drop. NOx will also come up. Worry about the EGR only if NOx comes in too high. Better fix it fast. That level of tailpipe out HC means the cat is likely taking a beating.

Im really thinking about just taking the head off and doin a serious makeover

You were right... the bolts on the manifold were loose... i went outside in the pouring rain, went for the first bolt i could see for 5 or 6, and it wasnt even finger tight.

Thanks for the pointer.. ill get it tightened and go get a smog pretest
