I found the master cylinder leaking inside the cabin into the carpet, so I need to replace the whole unit correct? also where is the slave cylinder located and do I need to replace it also? thanks John

Yeah it would be a good idea to do both at the same time, the slave is on the bell housing on the drive side. Mine was doing the sames thing.

its on the drivers side of the trans bell housing. 1 hose going into it and 2 12mm bolts hold it on. $35 @ advanced auto(1 day wait here) or $60 @ yoda.

get yoda parts. I bought a new master and slave from a local import parts store (where I have connections so I got both for like $40) but the master cylinder has a small spot where it catches for just a split second. Also, the pushrod that attaches to the pedal was about 1/2" too short so I have the pedal adjusted so it works...but it was just a pita. It is nice to have a much shorter push on the pedal though.

I say get toyota, you'll be happier.

Okay I ordered a new master and slave cylinder from Jeff Watson today, and should get it in time to do this weekend. Ive been looking at the tsrm and the slave cylinder is the same as the clutch release cylinder correct? this is where you bleed the system from. The job doesnt seem to hard, Im just worried I might not get the push rod on correctly. alright I'll let you know how it goes

should be a piece of cake. pull the old one out, try to line up the pushrod on the slave with the little divet in the fork. You should know if it's in there because you can feel the resistance when you're trying to put the bolts on (unless you don't have it connected...hmmm). Anyways, if you're really worried you can just take of the drivers side clutch inspection plate and it'll be easier. Just make sure you get it back on correctly (I used rtv on mine to make sure there was a good seal) you don't want to get any funny liquids on your clutch cuz then you'll really be in trouble. Good luck.

edit: don't forget to check pedal height and freeplay before you go driving around ;)

yeah. defently check clutch pedal height. mine is like right at the top and if i hit a bump hard enough i can almost feel the pp engage and disengage. no matter how much i play with it.

Okay I installed the new cylinders last week, and everything went well. It wasnt too bad of a job. It stopped the leak and all was good! Now about a week later its leaking again from the same spot!! What causes it to leak is it a seal or what? Do I need to send this unit back to Jeff or what?

okay can someone tell me how it leaks? I mean if one of the bolts loosened could that cause it to leak somehow or is it just a bad seal on a bad unit that crapped out in two days? just looking for something to check
