Should I fix My second supra?

Okay so I had an 88' white N/A years ago, that died. Now I have an 86.5 N/A .430 LSD, and recently bought a 90 white package turbo targa. Anyways the tranny in my 86.5 is all but gone dead on me. I have a tranny i can pick up for cheap, and I do mean cheap. and can then have it put in cheap and done right. In total about 500 bucks to get it all up and running again. thing is I jsut put a 60k motor in it because i bought it for 700 with a bhg and it ended up the block was cracked (doh!). oh wells no biggies, i tossed the other engine in it and got it rolling. it needs the following things done to it though other then the trans.

-New struts & Springs
-Brake pads, Rotors, etc.
-New paint all around (although no dents dings, or rust anywhere)
-New Tires
-New Dash (would like to do Shadow grey interior)
-New hoses all around (I paid for it when engine got put in, assholes never did it, long story)
-Battery, alternator, plugs, wires
-Knock sensor, and wiring.


thats what i can think of off the top of my head. now after paying 700 for the car, 650 for an engine, and 850 to put it all in after removing the old, I've roughly $2200 in the car so far. What i'm asking from yous peoples on the forums here is in your vast experiences with these cars (which i'm sure you all know collectivly way more then me about em) is should I fix the tranny and basically use it as my DD instead of the turbo as my DD? I kind of want to but with the costs of fixing all that stuff and fixing the tranny I feel like I could probably find a good shape NA for DD else where. However this is the first supra I bought for myself (parents bought me my first supra and first rx7), and I kind of have that "attachment" to it for that reason. anyways, opinions please. thanks again.

if you have the pockets to reach into yea bein u have it and all... but just think of it as a good project build. thats wat ima do with both mine. cuz i have one that runs and one that doesnt... but thats my opinion. gud luck and show some pics lol.

There's always a "better deal" out there. And there's always something wrong with that deal that is different from the problems you have with this car.

Here's what you've gotta weigh: You know the problems with this car. You know that once you fix them, they're done the right way because you did them yourself. If you buy a different car, you don't know yet what shortcutted, fixed shoddily, driven hard, etc - You can probably find a good one for same or less money than you'll put into this one, but you'll always wonder...

I think with a car you have some attachment to, it's more what you want - If you've got an attachment to this car, you're willing to put the time in to work on it, and you're OK with the money you're going to spend, go for it! If you have other things you want to spend your time on, and you're not an obsessive worrier about the condition of a used car, ditch it buy something that's running.

are you truly happy with the way your first supra is? i would concentrate on getting that where i want it to be first. unless you got the money for both then go ahead! i also have a 2nd supra and that one has future plans for a 2jz.. the body is terrible but ive always wanted to learn how to do body work. however my dad is considering buying it from me. he wants to put a 350 in it. so if that happens id just look around for another dead supra to do my 2jz swap something more what im looking for id like a targa top..

Well I for one really apreciate all the replies, you all make good sence, especially DangoAZ. It was helpful and Philisophical. The point is proven in the fact that the engine I bought was looked over maticulousy before installed so I know it's all in check there. And your right, I DO know the problems with the current car and have learned it as such, and with previously owning a supra (the 88), and also owning a turbo is great condition, then I have a good Idea of what is what when it's supposed to feel a certain way. I think i'm going to keep the car, it just seems to make more sence, yes no?
