Shocks Blown?

I have an 89 lowered on Eibach Prokits with Tokiko blue shocks. Many times going over bumps the front of my car dips low and my 3 hole Bomex lip smacks the pavement.

I recently stood at the front of the car and pushed down on the front and the suspension seems to travel up and down a little to easily for a lowered suspension. Front past experience, it should be fairly hard to bounce the front end of a lowered vehicle just by pushing down on it. The rear of the car is hard to push down on at all.

I know the MKIII is heavy in the front but I think these shocks may be toast. Anyone know how many miles the Tokiko's would be good for? I have no idea how long they have been on the car.

If it oscilliates, your shocks are blown. I.e. if you hit a bump and it bounces up and down up and down, ect.

If it's easy to push the suspension down, I would think it's the springs, as that the springs support the weight of the car, the shocks merely dampen the rebound of the springs, not support weight.

So to test. If you push on it and it goes down easy and then goes right back where it started...springs


If you push on it and it bounes like you have hydrolics....shocks

Sounds like it would be the springs. When I push down on it there is no bouncing. I know the pro-kits are not too hard but I'm surprised they offer that much give in the front.

Tokiko's have been know to blow on lowered vehicles...

Inspect them for leaks (it's usually obvious)

It actually could be both. Weak springs will over-work the shocks, especially when driven hard, and as you pointed out the Eibach's aren't the stiffest spring out there. Also, I have seen instances in which fairly new springs lose their stiffness, possibly due to a defect in the tempering process.

sry if im stealing the thread..soo if you push the shock down easily and it comes back up..its not blown?

Should have resistance to push down... Like I said, inspect them.

Eibach springs are some of the best made in the business, so unless they've been jacked with (heated to get them to drop more or cut) I don't see them having issues.
