My car is going up to 2500 - 3000 RPM's when I start it. Then it slowly drops and dies.

The car was running fine. Then the alternator went bad. I changed it out and got a new battery (cos it died in some bad area and got stolen that night) and when I went to start the car, it started doing that thing again where it starts then dies.

Before it died, the E-Brake and Check Engine lights were on when I'd drive it. I was told that was an alternator problem so I expected it to go away when I changed the alternator but it didn't. There's no holes in the intake or anything like that. And I can smell fuel really strong out of the exhaust when it starts up.

Okay I'll be sure to check my TPS sensor tomorrow. When the car starts up and dies, I go from about 10V starting out, to around 12 to 14V when it dies.

I got it figured out. Just thought I'd post it in case anyone ever searches for the same problem in the future.

My dad told me to take off the gas cap and try starting it up again, and it started up the first time. I guess there was a vacuum in the tank and that helped it by removing the cap. If I recall correctly I think the reason, there was a vacuum was because the fuel line was jammed or the fuel filter is dirty.

I'll double check today and post for future reference.
