Just got my car put back together after a valve job. When it idles very high, and if I tug on the throttle links to make it idle down it wants to die. If I give it gas it feels a little weak, but sounds good. I know I'm not supposed to say this, but the mechanics that helped me put it back together say that they run rough for some time after everything is put back together.

I need to time the CPS, which I'm assuming is part of the problem, but I have also heard that the car needs to be idling normal in order to time this. So it's a catch 22.

Should I let it run for a while to smooth out, or attempt to time it?

I've heard a few people say that your car will run like crap while the ecu is relearning itself. That isn't worded very well, but I'm better off reading pictures than words.

If it doesn't have any codes, and you know all of the valves are shimmed properly. Just give it a few minutes and see if it idles better. Have you made sure it's in time?
