I looked through each post and could not find any solutions to my problems. I just replaced the HG, put everything back together and the car started fine, but idles rough at 700 rpms. seems to have a lope to it and seems to be running rich. also, i have noise coming from the steering pump when I turn the wheels. I get some foaming in the reseivor sometimes. i replaced the low pressure hoses coming out of the resevoir. I went thru the steps on bleeding the system as stated in the service manual. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Sorry if my description isn't the best, but be gentle with me, after all I am a woman.:nono:

Pics first and then we help.... Only kidding. The power steering reservoir has a screen, it can become clogged and starve your PS pump for oil. See this thread about changing out the PS fluid and cleaning the screen. As far as the idle. You just replaced your HG so I would start by double checking all your vacuum hoses and harness plugs making sure they all plugged in and not leaking. Pull codes as well.

Did you do the HG yourself?

I would post a picture but then I know I wouldn't get any help! I cleaned the power steering screen already and changed the ps fluid. I have doubled checked and rechecked all harnesses and vacuum hoses. All seem to be in order. All vacuum lines are new. I had a 21 code, but I cleaned the connector to the 02 sensor on the downpipe and that took care of that code. I will pull codes again and let you know. I did the HG with help from some friends, (male) I know a toyota mechanic. I picked his brain. Thanks for the help.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I hear a air swishing noise when the car is running, sounds like it is coming from the fuel rack, I assumed is was the injectors I am hearing, is that correct or could it be something else?
I checked the codes, I am getting a 34, says it is the turbo charger pressure. What do I check for that?

Honestly you stumped me on both the issues. This is the tech section and I won't try to makeup the info.

Congrats on doing the HG yourself. I been thinking of doing my HG but I'm scared. Hell, If a girl can do it so can I!! :icon_wink

In addition to the power steering pump making noise, does your idle drop when you turn the wheels? Just thinking maybe the P/S idle up vacuum line isn't hooked up...I know you said you checked them all, but just a thought...that one is easy to miss since its path goes all the way from one side of the engine to the other and involves a few different hardlines and hoses.

I don't know yet if I did a good job or not. I am having these problems. Can the vsv cause this if it is hooked up backwards? there are 2 of those on the vacuum hard line below the intake manifold. A vacuum line goes into the back of the power steering pump that comes off the vacuum lines under the intake. Any experts out there to help me? :aigo:
