ok, i had to rebuild my engine again, this time because a bad detonation killed my piston. so i rebuilt it to factory spec, all clearences good. 50 miles into the build and i hear a faint knocking. a few more miles and its bad. so i drop the subframe and take the pan off to find all the rod bearings shot and the main bearings slighlty scored. the journals have slight grooves in them but im not taking the crank out so it will have to do hopefully. but i would like to know why the bearings died so fast. i did sandblast the head(on the sides) and spent two hours cleaning all the sand out and what i thought was sand free. but i think some sand must have gotten in the oil and went to the bearings. i had a fram filter on there which now i know is a pos, so my question is would a good filter be able to catch any contaminations? i would thinkl the filter would have caught any sand blasting particles but i guess not. oil pressure was good btw.

Sand blasting the head without putting it in a cleaning tank may not have been the best idea. If your bearing were damaged due to sand then you will have to pull the crank. If you drag your finger nail across any of the surfaces where bearing would be on the crank and it catches you should have the crank turned. I've seen mixed results with people not taking the crank out after a rod knock, most of them ended poorly except for a few.

I come from a land down under
If there was still sand in the head all it's going to fuck is the Cam journals and saddles.

RK that soon is 99% of the time incorrect clearences or an incorrectly plumbed filter relocation kit.
