I brought this up in a recent thread, and emailed the guys at Rising Sun Engines for a quote. Here's the returned email:

Engine Size or Model: 7MGTE 3.0 liter 6 cylinder

Carb or Fuel Inj:: Fuel Injected

Please quote for a:: Motor & Transmission

Comments: Looking to swap a turbo version of the 7M, I was wondering if i could get a complete drivetrain.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, we have an engine in stock for your application. Your cost is $895.00 for a used *tested* non turbo. Turbo motors are 1595.00 for used *tested*. In most cases freight within the lower 48 states is between $50 and $150.

It's a very good idea to replace the timing belts before you install the engine. If you have ever experienced a timing belt failure, then you know what we mean. We can also install new timing belts in the engine before shipment if you like. Your cost is only $75.00. for both the belts and the labor.

If the engine is shipped outside CA, there is no sales tax.

See our web page at http://www.risingsunengines.com/index.php?pg=engines04#testing for more info about our dynamic test procedures (very important as this is what sets us apart from the competition). You will also find information about mileage, warranty, etc. on our web site at http://www.risingsunengines.com/index.php?pg=faqs04#warranty

If you have any more questions, please e-mail us. If you would like to make a purchase, call us toll free at 1-800-660-4664.

This price quote is valid for 10 days but is limited to stock on hand.

$1595 seems VERY high, IMHO. you could buy a turbo parts car for less than that, or even better, a full 7M-GTE swap alreday shimmed for way less. Changing the timing belt and HG is good advice though.

my point was to just give some general info about a company that noone seemed to know on these forums. i didn't say they were good or anything, just basic information about those prices that werent listed on the site.

F*** that!
Here's a good quote for rebuilt 7m
This is a quote for ARP head studs and HKS 2.0 MHG thats what i asked for when i got this response. You can also get different HG brans etc. and even forged internals and Bill is awesome he can get you GOOD discounts on extra stuff you might want when you buy an engine.

We do have 7M-GTE rebuids available. They are $1,995 and include the following new parts: Timing Belt, Tensioner, Water Pump, Front & Rear Crank Seals, Cam Seals, Valve Cover Gaskets, Main & Rod Bearings, Pistons & Rings, Valve Stem Seals, 2.0mm HKS Head Gasket, and ARP Head Bolts. We have the block decked, and the head surfaced before assembly. If you would rather the ARP Head Studs it will be an additional $45. Shipping to you will be approximately $105 to a business, and I will split that with you, so you will be looking at $50. If it needs to go to a residence there will be an additional $125 from the shipping company.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Thanks,

As for the $2000 fully rebuilt 7m-gte, I would trust it as far as I could throw it. They said they would deck the block and head, but they didn't mention honing the cylinders, line bore the mains, resizing the rods properly, polishing the crank, balancing, valve job, etc... Changing the valve seals is not a head rebuild. I have seen the way these cheap engine rebuilds are done, and it's not pretty.

If it's cheap it must be good, right? :3d_frown:
