I know there have been 927 threads about people doing rebuilds and the questions surrounding said operation, but as I consider my options for my rebuild, I have a few questions I haven't found good answers to. I apologize if any or everybody is tired of reading this crap.

Pistons: I found a set with rings on ebay made by NOA or Nippon of America for $120. Basically here I just want to know if anybody has any gripes about or better alternatives to these for the price. Don't have the $$$ for forged goodness.

Rings: One of my biggest questions right now is what rings to go with. The pistons above come with a set of NPR's. Does anybody have any experience using these rings? From what I gather they are chrome and steel which is not a good thing for the 7m block. Are Toyota rings the best way to go? What specific alternatives are out there?

Main & Rod Bearings: How do ACL's stack up to Clevites? I know I've read that original Clevite 77's were very good, but now they are just another brand boxed as Clevites correct? Any better alternatives?

Thanks for any helpful hints
-Ryan

I recommend ditching the 7M and putting in a 2jzge and turbocharging it. It will save you money in the end and is a very robust platform.

it's looks to me like a good piston set to buy if you are just thinking about a stock rebuild. If you want your engine to push high horsepower later I would suggest buying JE, Ross, Wiseco, Crower, etc. pistons and rings with the other supporting access.

This question really never got answered, im trying to figure out what rings to go with as well. I already have NPR's that came with my pistons but im not sure if they are the best rings to use or not. Going for basically stock power, some basic upgrades. THanks for any tips.

from what i read and what xman has done.i really dont think you would ever need aftermarket internals unless your planning to push past 400whp.correct me if im wrong but arent 7m internals forged? xman has done some serious work on stock internal 7ms driving them reliably for years.

Ill answer your question. For stock power to about 375 rwhp/rwtq you will be fine. Those rings are chrome moly, so you ll be fine. I have used that set of piston and ring combo TWICE, but the piston seems to brake the lip inbetween the rings on both rebuilds. Some people have had really good experience with them but i beat the hell out of mine :nono:. Like i said for stock to mild upgrades youll be fine ACL Bearings are good bearings and you will be fine using those too. I have answered your questions hopefully and my answers are from personal experiences with the products mentions above. The 7m can handle all the power you need , just build it right...Good luck and if you have any questions , FIRE AWAY :icon_bigg

For a stock rebuild, that piston set w/rings should do fine. If you're worried I would find some Hastings rings if you can get them. I've had great results with their rings on a few different motors.

ACL bearings work fine although they don't make the "race" bearings for us and I wish they did!

My 7M is at the machine shop right now and it's getting new ACL bearings as recommended by my machinist. Also, I needed to get my cylinders bored 20-over so I ordered a NPR piston set w/rings off eBay. I dropped them off at the shop and my machinist said NPR pistons and rings are very good. I trust his opinion.

knowing counterfeit and original is a whole different thing. What is packaged in a NPR package might not be an actual NPR product. Word of advice and just purchase from reputable shop like driftmotion.com and rest assured your getting what you pay for.

Supra's never came forged. right? I know that those early years the 4agze came forged, and thats about it. I could be wrong.... but a little searching can prove a powerful tool. I'm going off what I read months ago about toyota using forged internals (memory vague right now).

7m rods or pistons were not forged. cast and if my memory serves me correct i think x man made 7xx hp on je's and stock rods with a metal hg and a very very good tune.

if your looking for some cheap good quality pistons for stock to mild hp go with npr.
http://store.driftmotion.com/static/i-npr7m-gtepistonset.php
driftmotion sells them with rings for 120. a good deal and doubt they will be knock offs.
