Ran into a guy ..

Ok. .Not hit him with my car :biglaugh: I was parking at publix and a guy came up to me and told me he has a 89 black turbo 5speed targa with a blown hg for sale as a parts car. He thinks the engine is a toss out because it was taken apart and it rust on the inside of the block and head. I wanted to know before I go look at it if this is true. If the engine sat and got rusty is it trash?

I will take my camera and take alot of pics, any sugestions on pics I should take of the engine. I am guessing it is still not together. It suposedly had a metal HG but some drunk friend turned the boost up to high and killed it. It has mods but I do not know what type. I will try and get a list and take pics best I can. Anyway my father has an 89 and he has talked to me about getting a parts car so you never know.

it depends on how serious the rust is. If its surface rust then some naval jelly will take care of that. But if the block (cylinder walls) are pitted then you can go up to 40 over and if it is still pitted then you have a heavy coffee table

actually gawd damnit your in florida. your about as far away as you can possibly get without being in puerto rico.

either way if its an intact 89 5sp it may be worth it to pick it up if its clean, hell you could probably just throw in another engine for about $1000 in parts to get it working right and sell it for a profit.

Well I will post pics and see what you guys think its worth. I think he is gonna want more then its worth tho. The way he was talking sounded like he thinks he has a diamond in the rough. He mentioned 18in rims, and it had some mods. Here is the scarry part. He was thinking about puting in a 350 chevy????? I did not say anything just that I would call him this week to go see it. Anyway I would not get too excited about it but I will go take some pics and see what you guys think.

i saw an 87 with a 350 for sale around here. had a hole cut out in the hood for a supercharger or whatever the hell should stick out of the hood in an american muscle car. i couldn't tell you, cause i dont pay attention to the damn things.

Ha, yea it could have been a supercharger or just a hole for no reason and a fake supercharger top. (i've seen the fake setup too) its crazy but people are crazy. If this has a good body maby we can get it away from him before he does something weird like that.

Well maby this is a chance to rescue the supra before it gets raped.. I am setting up a meeting to see it tomorrow (tuesday). will take lots of pics

Get the supra! Talk him down on the price, he should lower the price if it's outrageous.
