I just purchased the R154 rebuild kit from MDC and need to figure out if I should do the rebuild myself or have someone do it for me. I am just a little worried about doing the rebuild and getting the tranny back in and it not working. A lot of waisted time. So here are a few questions I have to help me decide:

1. Is there a good link/site to help with the rebuild?

2. What tools are needed and where to buy them?

3. How complicated is it (I have seen pics and it looks complicated)?

I am considering doing the same thing. I also would be intrested in hearing
from anyone who has used this kit for the rebuild and problems related. I can
say I would probably take LOTs of dig. pics on the teardown to make sure it
went back the way it was----

You need a press and other tools. My friend tried to install a final drive on his civic and he ran into problems. I would just pay someone to do it or else find a friend that has rebuilt a few before.

I am glad you chimed in. I saw your thread about your rebuild. This gives me some encouragement to do it myself. So did your R154 turn out fine?

it wasnt that hard. get a telescoping magnet, regular hand tools, and of course already metioned press for the gears!

I was intimidated myself before i started but then just threw my hands at it!!

yes i've been driving around on it for sometime without any problems!

It was the 1st gear thrust washer that was broken in mine but besides that I replaced bearings and what not while I had it open. once you get it apart place it in a vice and look it over for a little while get an idea on how you will take it apart and read the tsrm!
They have a few lil C clips you gotta pop off try not to pop them off to where they fly all over the place because you need them!

OK, so I got a press. So do you press the gears off of the shafts? If so do you press them back on too? Any tricks I should know about. I am going to try and do a thread with pics and lots of instructions. So if anybody can help me with some advice I can put in the thread. Let me know. Thanks.

the TSRM is your bible on doing it, it's completely step by step...

they use tons of SST's, but you can usually improvise

I think the SSTs will kill your progress with quick order if you don't have them, of course in addition to the press.
