r154 assembly, 5th gear syncro engages

i was almost ready to put the whole thing in the car and while assembleing the r154 and everything is installed correctly in the transmsiision. i used the transmission rebuild kit from driftmotion and 5th gear is causing problems. the syncro,when 5th gear is disengaged, the syncro caches the taper of the gear spline end and uses its brake action to start engaging 5th gear. i have tried the old and new syncros, and everything has been moved around to fix the problem but nothong seems to work. please help!!!:nono:

It does this with or without the shift forks installed?

Did you install the two spring clips and the 3 little tabs btwn the hub sleeve and the hub? (page mt-69 in tsrm) Also in the right direction. IIRC, fifth gear is the only one where orientation matters on the three tabs
