Question about 89+ Tails

Just a few days ago i noticed that the trunk lock has fallen off from inside the center piece of my tails.

does anyone have a pic of what it is supposed to look like inside that center piece around the lock area?

I didnt install the tails someone else did... and beginning to notice the sh*tty job he did...

when I switched to 89+ tails, I had to epoxy my stock lock cylinder into place because it mounts to the center piece differently between the two styles. mine works fine, I am just easy on the key when unlocking.

sounds like thats what the previous owner did, but not well, and the lock cylinder snapped off. I would just take it apart, and re-attach the lock cylinder the best you can with some good metal and plastic epoxy, and keep the 89+ tails (wayyyy better IMO).

Hey thanks for the tip and advice on keeping the tails...

is this the problem for all the tails i mean 89+ or just us who switch over to them???

you tried just the remote access... not the inside cable but the actual push a button and pops the hatch???

anyone here on SM have it or one???

let me know and give some recommendations if you have.. might be a better choice for me anyways....:3d_frown:

The problem is in keeping your stock lock cylinder. The inside cable still works fine, because it doesn't use the lock cylinder, it is a separate cable.

I'm pretty sure that if you used an 89+ lock cylinder, that it would just bolt into place, but the key would be different.

not too sure what your asking about a better choice tho...

I'd have to look at both lock cylinders, but it might be possible to swap the two assemblies after disassembling the lock...

you can get an 89+ lock cylinder and then get it re-keyed to your original key. I locksmith should be able to do it.

see, the only issue is I think they changed the entire key design in 89, but I'd have to look it up...
