Without converting or doing anything to the current oil cooler system is it plug n play to install an aftermarket oil cooler?

I wanted to install an aluminum one with new lines to replace the stock one.

It should be fine to swap the hoses and cooler to another one, just by the right sized hose and fabricate a way to mount (aluminum flat stock should work)

the best way would be to go with a thermostatic cooler or sandwich plate, because the stock filter housing diverts oil to the coolers by pressure in the system, putting a thermostat lets the oil get to running temp then converge to the cooler to maintain said temp m ind you a full conversion can cost quite a penny, but is a really well known way to convert from that annoying filter housing
Here's a link to help you out if you do conversion http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62838
