Pulling Crank

Here's my scenario: I have the engine on my engine stand with the oil pan up. The engine is essentially fully assembled and has about 500 miles on it, so all the seals are new. I want to pull the crank. I'm planning to pull the crank pulley and timing gear. Do I need to pull both the timing case/front main seal and the the rear seal/seal retainer to get the crank out or could I get away with doing one or the other?

Everything has to be removed to get the crank in and out without damaging anything.

What the reason for just removing the crank?
