Sony has confirmed that the, surprising, PS3 price drop announced last night for the Japanese launch will not affect the console's price for the US and European launches.

During his keynote address at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony Computer Entertainment President, Ken Kutaragi, announced that the new PS3 price 49,980 yen (USD 429 / EUR 335 / GBP 225). This brings the price of the Japanese 20 GB PS3 to 70 USD under that of its U.S. counterpart while the same European console will be over 85 Euro more expensive.

This price cut seems to be a reaction to a very negative reaction to the console by Japanese consumers and retailers. It seems the U.S. market has not concerned SCEA enough to announce a price cut. The Tokyo Game Show also had some good news for PS3 fans as it was confirmed that both the 20GB (USD 499) and the 60GB (USD 599) PS3's will feature an HDMI slot.

You guys sure do alot of research about PS3s...

I already knew I would buy one, even before any pictures or information was released. As long as they keep making the same games they've been making since PS1, they can't disappoint me.

Yeah me too. I hadn't really read much of anything on the PS3 until that last thread announcing it's launch in November. LOL.

I think I'm done with consoles (after the Wii). The prices are getting to be REDICULOUS and the same games keep getting made over and over...and over.......and over, only with different names. There are no original ideas anymore...I'm hoping the Wii provides some...

Don't rely on nintendo to give you NEW ideas in video games...

You're right, PS keeps making the same games over and over. That's why I keep buying, because I love the games. As long as sequels don't suck ass, like Devil May Cry 2 did, I'll be happy. The majority of the games I bought for PS2 were sequels to PS1 games and that's the way I like it.

Nintendo gets the point I think. It's not about graphics, it's about gameplay. It's sad to see that the main thing that gets the focus now is graphics...gameplay usually suffers like CRAZY and the games are short as hell (or too god damn long... ie Xenosaga Episode I)

I don't mind sequels to games...BUT the games that seem to keep getting sequels are the games I really have no interest in playing. Traditional RPG games are pretty much few and far between, side scrolling action games are for the most part dead and platform games either REALLY suck or have one good iteration in the series of 10 million of that game that gets made.

I sold my xbox, lost my gamecube (brother's friend broke it) and my PS2 hardly ever gets played. Why? because there, for the most part, are no good games on any of them anymore and the good ones that have come out I already own and have beaten...

The old SNES and N64 still get rocked though on and almost daily basis though!
