Probe Forged Pistons: You want 'em? GB!

bountykilla: I don't want to open the group buy until we have a model of the piston in hand - I want everyone to be able to see the piston for themselves, before putting money down on it

Yannis: This will be it, unless I do another run in like 6 months or so - but I would need 15 people in it, at a minimum to make it work.

LilMiss: The price won't be final until I know exactly how many sets are ACTUALLY PAID FOR - and even then, I've got to figure out things like the credit card fees and all - certainly not wanting to lose money out on something like this, lol. $292.50 for the pistons (remember, Probe is not building the rings - they are going to come from NPR) is already an incredibly low price - I don't see it going much lower than that, so I can speak confidently about this price. As it is, we're getting upgraded wrist pins (.150" wall pins instead of the standard .120"), so some of that cost is going to be hopefully eaten up by the large number of pistons being ordered

Just so we are all on the same page - HAVE YOUR MONEY READY - the group buy will only last about a week - 2 weeks at the VERY most, so that we can have the pistons to us before summer is over.

Afraid not - you could pick up a set of .020" just to be safe (bore it if you are stock size, if not, you have the sized pistons you need!)

I did think of that too, only thing I'm worried about is what if I currently run 0.5mm and I may also need any kind of machining/resurfaceing of my cylinders? I may end up with bigger than 0.5mm bore...

Qwik, I could get .060" over, but I REALLY would heavily recommend against it on the 7M block. Toyota does state that over .5mm (.020") should be time to find a new block.

9:1 won't be possible, these are stock compression pistons

I agree - There has been plenty of forewarning for this killer deal - I'm confident that the people that want them, will certainly get them.

Besides, I want my car running before Fall, so I can whip some ass when I get back to college. I've got 2 MKIVs that need a lesson in humility :naughty:

Yannis, how many miles since your rebuild? How many miles on your motor altogether?

1.5k tops. No other data on the block itself though as I bought it separately from a rebuilt/reconditioning shop in u.k. and it came already prepared. There was something I didn't like on the cylinder walls though so I'm not sure if and what it'll take to resurface them properly. If we're talking microns here then I suppose I'll be fine with the 0.20 pistons even if that's my current bore, right? But what if machining will eat out more than that...

Then a .40 over is in store, IF you have enough material to safely support it for your specific block. I'm no sure as to the bore of my engine, so I'm getting a .20 overbore, but then again, I'm not using this block or head, so I'll be looking for a virgin GTE block and a nice condition GE head .

Only problem is that the .40 equals to the very last bore I'd be able take my block to...There's just no easy answer on this with just guessing. The only way to find out for sure is to open the motor up...Oh well I will have to take a decision soon as there's no way I'm passing this. Doward put me in for one set (of unknown dia for the moment :icon_conf :icon_bigg )
