Power Steering Cooler

I have seen threads where people upgraded it.

My car does not have one. It's a pre 89. N/A for now...

The guys who do a fair amount of hard and/or high speed driving (winding mountain roads for example) where there are continuous significant steering deflections swear by them for keeping the fluid from boiling and trashing their racks. There are a good few threads around here on the subject if you want to do some research on them.

So while they aren't absolutely "needed", they can be an extra bit of insurance in some driving conditions to protect your steering components and your ability to control your car.

All of them have one (it's a simple loop of hardline across the front above where the intercooler was.

91-92 had the loop, but it actually had fins mounted to it to act like a real cooler as several of the times they raced the supra, it dropped out because of power steering failure.

Okay, learned something new. Didn't realize that's what that line was. Doesn't make much of a cooler, does it, at least not without the fins?

I haven't yet, but I can tell you that after hitting the twisties hard the wheel gets noticably harder to turn...

Yeah, we've got some nice mountain roads around here for that sort of thing. Couple of them would be a little interesting if your steering was deciding to go south on you. :nono:

Okay I understand that. I just use mine to go to work and back home. 10 minute ride. That's about it for now.

Yes...why do you think it's a candidate for upgrade

hhmm so the cars do come with it normally? I checked my car and it does not have one. The engine of my car is missing allot of things compared to most people here on the forums. I am glad it is still working. Have no issues even tho it is missing allot.

So I do need one for sure? I have a extra oil cooler that I never used. I would just use that.

i know i've posted my setup a few times but my power steering is on the passenger side and my oil is on the driverside in the fog locations

That's definately one way to get them both into the air flow.

yeah it is. i think its a good idea to upgrade it - debris and heat are the #1 killers of your P/S system. and it doesn't have to be hard driving (the p/S "coolers" we have are puny compared to modern cars) so it can just be a really hot day and a longer drive than normal and it could be bad news.

a proper working oil cooler setup would be nice as well since ours are lame
