Ok, so the kids were trying to pull on the thing when i was shutting off the car.
After that it wouldn't go up anymore :)

So i went about removing the side of the spoiler, the inside panneling and got to the antenna and pulled it inside to the trunk area.

It's not like the guide on the cygnus site, mine has a black plastic cover and inside is not a nylone round cable, but one with toothed side that slides next to some gears to go into the antenna rod.

I called toyota and they can't seem to get that part. So am i looking at an antenna from a different car or an aftermarket replacement?

I faced the same delimma as you and decided to just get a new one rather than try to fix this older one. New one works great!

I haven't had to change one on my any of my Supras. But all the Toyota's I did at the dealer used the plastic cable inside the antenna mast with teeth wrapped around the gear.

You can get a new mast, they might even be interchangable. The mast can come seperate from the antenna assembly.

Mine was busted off when I got the car. Does anyone know if those ebay ones are "drop-in" or is it better to get one from Toyota?

In terms of fitment, you know I always favor the dealer. Not to be confused with most of you wanting to increase engine output.

I have ordered from Champion/Jay Marks. I like their website.

This particular power antenna unit uses this very odd type of clutch inside. It has two metal washers and a carbon disc sandwiched between. My antenna wasnt 100% perfectly strait or had some kind of a pinch in it somewhere so only sometimes it would go up allt he way (the clutch would slip before it pushed the antenna up more). I tried everything to make the clutch grip harder including sanding but nothing worked. Besides, the motor is very loud and annoying, so i just disconnected it.

I leave mine down (disconnected it years ago) and use the diversity one instead. Works fine in urban areas. CDs or MP3 when in the boonies...

Excuse the ignorance here jetjock; but, what is the 'diversity' one? I noticed recently that my car has two antenna plugs to go into the back of a radio. Do the supras have two antennas?!

Thanks...

Currently, my reception is horrible. I'll switch to the other antenna and see if there is an improvement.

You'll need to pick up an antenna adapter to use the other one, any decent stereo installation place will have them. The second antenna jack is the weird mini plug, not the standard size that everything else uses.

I just switched back to the powered one today, we'll see how long that lasts. :)

Hey Gunnar, will grab one tommorow and do a quicj instale and see whats up. Snap a couple pics to.
As far as what CyFi6 was saying I would imagine he was referring to the after market one
I discribed. As far as if not working right and being noisie it was bent, so hope that's not
how they come. muzy

Well, you can get them from Toyota for ~$25. Part number 86336-14350 or 86336-14370.

Say is that the whole motor and mast assembly, or just the mast? muzy:icon_surp

Just the mast, of course. :) The entire assembly is ~$235, part numbers for it are 86300-14362 or 86300-14372.

LOL, of course. How could i be so ridiculous.:3d_frown:
Any way, looks like this is the route foe you Gunnar as OEM parts are just
the most sensable thing to do.:icon_bigg muzy
Nice work GrimJack
