Poor paint, wax question

Ok, when I wash my car the paint comes off leaving sponges and towels maroon. Im considering a wax job on it but wondering if its gonna help or makes things worse.

I want to use a power buffer(non orbital low rpm and all that). Im just worried if a sponge takes paint off how much paint will a power buffer pull of. Or will the paint be ok with the use of wax/polish whatever?

Any tips for cleaning this poor car with its current paint condition? Even if I just spray it with a hose I swear my driveway has maroon residue on it lol.

Ill try to get some, but I mean its just maroon and you can see a goldish shine in parts. Im guessing the gold is the under/prime coat? If you rub your hand on the roof or hood your hand turns maroon lol.

LOL. my car is starting to do the same thing. but im not that worried cuz im gonna be repainting any way. i was thinking a really dark gun metal.

Ya Im going to repaint eventually but not any time soon. Money for me right now is better spent on making it run better than look good lol. At the same time though if a coat of wax will help Im all for that. I just dont wanna strip off the rest of the paint in the process.

Sounds like oxidization. Scrub it down a couple of times with lots of dish soap and a terry cloth. Buff it out in the shade with cutting compound, polishing compound and finishing compound. Use an orbital buffer

Sounds good ill give it a try then. Any particular brands I should try? I read about wax that contains Carnauba is the best?

IMO, Turtle Wax is terrible...just thought I would throw that in there, because it seems like that's what people always grab...

Use 3M Rubbing Compound, 3M Hand Glaze, and end with some kind of wax...Xymol is a good choice.

I have a prefrence to Mother's and Meguirs, because the guys that worked in our detail shops prefered that as the over the counter products.

search for "cutting and buffing paint" on google to read up on how to do it. Take your time because it is easy to ruin a paintjob if you are careless.

Im not sure I can really Ruin my paintjob at this point lol.

i like to use Black Magic. ive been using it for years and it hasnt givin me any problems at all. 3 days ago i went to wash my car and wax it. later that night i went to a doughnut shop and the old guys there were asking if i already painted my car. i told them no, i just put some wax on. Big Diffirence!

I always grab Turtle hand wax myself due to my experience with the other NEW invented waxes that don't even last a month. Carnube wax has been around far too long to be thought of as just another wax. Google Carnuba sometime and read up on it's history. But then again it's a preference thing.
