polished rims

can anyone tell me the process on "how to polish my stock aluminum rims"? sort of like the shiney look that I have seen on a few supras. Do I have to remove the paint first or can I just start rubbing the rims with a cloth or cleaner?

what wheels do you have?

if they are the stock sawblades if you use aircraft remover they have a nice shiney surface under that and you could just then use polishing compound

If you have the 5 spokes you are into hours and hours of fun labor

i'm pretty sure when you strip the finish on the 5 spokes its the crappy aluminum finish and you would have to sand down the rough finish and once it was smooth you could take some polishing compound to it.

the sawblades are all ready are a smooth shiney finish under the paint.

Can sawblades be polished up beyond there already shiny (once you strip the paint) surface?

I've seen some that looked like chrome and I was wondering if they were just polished.

so stock sawblades can be shined up... I might have to try this... I have a few extra sets of sawblades...

they dont look half bad, but you will have to run without a center cap because they are plastic and will not look good... and sawblades without center caps dont look good...

wait a minute... sawblades with center caps dont look good...
damned if you do, damned if you dont.

dont spend time on these wheels... pick up a set of 17's.. 16's make the car look stupid. i regret ever taking the time to sand mine down and paint them black. they were in perfect condition before that, and required nothing to make them that way...

Here's the deal;

Spray the sawblades with paint remover in the gold and white aerosol can (I for get the brand name). A trick to make the remover work better is to cover the wheels up with tin foil while the remover is working, it makes a big difference.

What blew my mind is when you hose off the paint remover they immediatly look like somebody spent all day polishing them! They are super shiny just from being stripped of paint. If you want you can mothers mag 'em and they look even better.

Swear to God I know this first hand cause I did it myself. HUGE IMPROVEMENT!!!
