Hi i am a new memeber of this forum, as well as a supra owner. I purchased a N/A auto mkiii which was converted to a manual w/ 7mgte and R154. THe previous owner cut many corners during his install and did a shitty job. He got rid of the charcoal canister and im not sure to just buy one or can I run w/out any problems without it? Also, I bought a used 7mgte (from canada) and noticed that the small hardlines which attach to the upper intakle plenum has different numbers of lines. Im totally confused. Also does anyone know what the little regulator function is that is located below the turbo to the right of the motor mount? I have put alot of time and late nights looking for answers all over but am coming up short. But I really enjoy learning about this wonderful machine. Thanks for any feedback!

You can run without the charcoal canister no problem. Just be sure the gas tank is venting properly. You can search for different methods on this. I vent out by the gas tank filler neck and use a venting gas cap myself.

Online TSRM will probably help with your other questions.

Ok, are there any adverse effects for running no charcoal canister and having a non ventilated gas cap? When you said you vent thru the neck what kind of method did you use? Thanks

you will be fine running without a vented gas cap as long as you keep the vent line open from the fuel tank

why do you think he did a shitty job on the install? and why did you buy a new motor?

Well the reason I think for the shitty install is I talked to mechanic who worked @ a llocal shop that actually "put in the 7mgte swap and r154 tyranny. He said the previous owner had a certain amount of money and was told to cut any kind of corners to get er' done. How much work the mechanic did himself is uncertain as of yet, but I will soon know the truth. =) I bought a new engine caz the previous one had some kind of bottom end rod knock. Also know some of the work was ghetto rigged because after I took everything apart (engine and trans. out of the car) I found these:
1. Engine to transmission bolt (top) was broke. "someone" had put rtv on one
side to make it look like it was still bolted. (spun freely without coming out)
2. Guy had some kind of aftermarket FMIC the was laying down, not up like
normal, and was help on by coat hanger wire.
3. Rear trans mission mount was gone. Instead I found three 1 inch blocks of
mdf board.
4. Turbo timer was hooked up incorrectly.

I really wish I had pics of when I bought the car. It makes me laugh when I think of it now. The mkiii also came with true bomex front, generic bomex wing, apexi twin bov, intercooler hardpipes, full 3inch exhaust from the downpipe all the way, and oldschool 16inch tri spoke wheels. I got the car for $2000 caz of a hookup thru work.
